A Longmont man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for providing drugs to a minor in exchange for sexual acts between May 2022 and March 2023.

Jonathan Martinez-Cota, 28, was initially charged with sexual assault of a child – pattern of abuse; sexual assault of a child – 10 years age difference; two counts of second-degree contributing to the delinquency of a minor; third-degree assault – knowingly or recklessly cause injury; and sexual exploitation of a child. After pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a child on April 11, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison with 562 days of credit for time served, according to court records. Upon entering the plea, the remaining charges were dismissed.

On March 16, 2023, a girl gave police details about her relationship with Martinez-Cota, 28, which led officers to believe that she had been a victim of child sexual assault and/or human trafficking of a minor. The girl later admitted to officers that she was 14 years old at the time that their sexual relationship started.

The girl told police that Martinez-Cota provides her with drugs, methamphetamine, marijuana and cigarettes. She also mentioned to officers that he paid for her rent at the house, paid for a room at a Marriott in Longmont and also bought her clothes, food and jewelry.

Cota was arrested on Sept. 28, 2023, according to court records.
