Must read

(KRON) — The driver of a Toyota Tundra was struck and killed by a loose tire while traveling northbound on I-680 Thursday near Alamo, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred after the tire detached from a van traveling on the opposite side of the interstate at approximately 1:35 p.m., south of Stone Valley Road. The driver of the Toyota suffered major injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our preliminary investigation indicates a Ford van was traveling on I-680 northbound, just south of Stone Valley Road, when, for reasons still under investigation, its left rear wheel became detached,” CHP’s Contra Costa office said. “The wheel continued traveling north when it crossed over the concrete center divider, and struck a Toyota Tundra traveling on the opposite side of I-680.”
