Rain that has battered Kentucky over the past several days is subsiding, but residents now have to face the threat of rising floodwaters as rivers and streams across the commonwealth continue to swell.
Some communities have already ordered evacuations for residents ahead of river crests that began Sunday. According to estimates from the National Weather Service in Louisville, some rivers are expected to exceed their flood stages by several feet. School districts across the state have canceled classes or opted for non-traditional learning days, with a curfew for Frankfort residents Sunday night.
While flooding has already impacted some areas of Louisville, Mayor Craig Greenberg said the Ohio River is now expected to crest at more than 35 feet at the upper portion of the McAlpine Locks and Dam near the Falls of the Ohio by mid-week, rivaling levels last seen in 2018. The lower portion of the dam is expected to crest at 68 feet, which could pose threats to west and southwest Louisville, officials said.

Monday
Mostly sunny skies become mostly cloudy in the early evening before gradually clearing, with a high near 60 and low around 28. North winds of 5 to 9 mph become west in the afternoon with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10% with a slight chance of showers between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. and frost after 2 a.m. North winds of 7 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph Monday night.
Tuesday
Areas of frost before 8 a.m. with north winds of 6 mph calming by Tuesday night. Sunny with a high near 49 and low around 32.
Wednesday
Chance of precipitation is 70% with new precipitation of between a tenth and a quarter of an inch possible mainly after 2 a.m. Partly sunny skies turn mostly cloudy, with a high near 59 and low of 49. South winds of 3 to 7 mph.
Thursday
Chance of precipitation is 60% with showers likely and thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. and through Thursday night. Partly sunny skies turn mostly cloudy, with a high near 65 and low around 41.
Friday
A 20% chance of showers. Partly sunny skies turn partly cloudy, with a high near 57 and a low around 37.
