Honolulu police says a 72-year-old man involved in a earlier this month in Ewa Beach has died, marking Oahu’s 45th traffic fatality this year.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office on Friday informed police that the man, who was driving one of the cars involved, succumbed to his injured and died.

At about 5 :42 a.m. on July 12, police reported that a 37-year-old man with two passengers was speeding southbound on Fort Weaver Road when he collided with another vehicle.

His car went airborne and rolled over, ejecting him onto a grassy median. The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Paramedics took the 72-year-old man—the driver of the other vehicle—to the hospital in critical condition.

The teen and juvenile passengers of the first vehicle were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Police counted this as Honolulu County’s 45th traffic fatality compared to 22 at the same time last year.

An investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
