A man accused of beating and robbing an 81-year-old woman in San Angelo was transferred Friday to the Tom Green County Jail after his apprehension last week about 150 miles southwest of the city, according to online jail records and police.
Christian Hunter Knowlton, 27, was charged with injury to an elderly person and aggravated robbery and was being held Sunday in the Tom Green County Jail on $2.5 million in bonds, jail records show.
Anyone accused of a crime is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
San Angelo police said Knowlton left the 81-year-old woman severely beaten and unconscious April 7 in the 4300 block of Rodeo Drive in San Angelo.
In addition, her Jeep Renegade was reported stolen, police said. The woman was transported to Shannon Medical Center’s ER and then flown to an out-of-town medical facility for more treatment.

A manhunt ensued for Knowlton, who San Angelo police Chief Travis Griffin named as a suspect during a press conference April 8. He asked the public to notify police with any information about Knowlton and the woman’s Jeep.
Knowlton was taken into custody April 8 in Fredericksburg by the local police department, and the woman’s Jeep was found, officials said.

He was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and injury to an elderly person in connection with San Angelo incidents, and he was held on $1.5 million total bonds in the Gillespie County Jail, according to jail records.
Knowlton was released to another agency Friday, and the charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle was dropped, Gillespie County Jail records show.
