A 72-year-old man from the Monroe area was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 23 after allegedly pulling a loaded gun and throwing a fake stick of dynamite at a stranger.
Monroe police officers were dispatched to Veterans Park shortly after 8 a.m. in response to a report of an individual who had brandished a pistol and thrown a lit fake piece of dynamite at the victim.
Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, who explained that the suspect was fishing behind Monroe Fire Station 2. He said he didn’t know the suspect’s name but had encountered him the previous evening, and they had an argument.
On the day of the incident, the victim said that the suspect approached his van and hurled what appeared to be a lit piece of dynamite on to the hood of the vehicle without any provocation. The victim retrieved the fake dynamite and threw it back at the suspect, unsure if it was real, police said in a news release. At that point, the suspect allegedly pulled out a black handgun and told the victim to freeze. The suspect then walked away and resumed his fishing, police said.
