A 33-year-old man was arrested Friday in the shooting of two teens at a Lauderhill apartment complex.

Kurt Cranston is now charged with two counts of attempted murder, Lauderhill Police said in a news release Saturday.

Police had responded to the parking lot of an apartment complex at 2041 Northwest 43rd Terrace a little after 4 p.m. Wednesday after they were notified that 12 gunshots had been detected in the area, according to a release. When they arrived, they found a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old with gunshot wounds. One was found in the road and the other was found in the parking lot.

Detectives watched surveillance video footage, which appeared to show Cranston walking near the apartment’s leasing office with a gun tucked in his armpit, according to the release. When he turned the corner, he pointed the gun at a group of people in the playground area of the complex and began to shoot, continuing to shoot at them as they ran away.

Cranston told detectives in an interview that he shot at the two boys because of a “prior incident” last Sunday during which he “feared for his life,” according to the release. Police are investigating that incident.

Cranston is being held at the Broward County Main Jail.
