A man was charged with first-degree murder on Saturday in connection with a shooting that took place in Oak Park on Friday.
The Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney’s Office charged 20-year-old Jabari McGee of Chicago with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that killed 54-year-old Corey Gates of South Holland.
6 in custody after fatal shooting early Friday morning in Oak Park
Friday’s shooting happened in the 600 block of South Boulevard shortly before 1:30 a.m., according to police. A spokesman for the Oak Park Police Department said the shooting happened on South Boulevard west of Wesley Avenue. Gates was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was pronounced dead around 2 a.m.
Six people, including McGee, were detained Friday morning following the shooting. Officials said three juveniles were released without charge on Friday. Two other adult offenders were also released without charge.
McGee is being held for a bond hearing and the investigation is still active and ongoing.
