Must read

A man is in custody in connection with a reported shooting and carjacking Saturday night in south Louisville, Louisville Metro Police spokesperson John Bradley said.

Sometime after 9:45 p.m., Third Division officers were called to the 7200 block of National Turnpike on a report of a person shot, Bradley said, and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man alleged he had been robbed at gunpoint and the suspect had driven away in his vehicle. First responders treated the man at the scene.

Soon after, officers from the Third Division, Fourth Division, K9 Unit and Air Unit spotted a dark Chevrolet Trailblazer matching the description of the reported stolen vehicle. The vehicle was stopped in the 3200 block of Taylor Boulevard after a “short pursuit,” Bradley said.

Montrell Thompson, 31, was taken into custody around 10:05 p.m., Bradley said. Jail records show Thompson was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections Sunday. He faces charges of first degree robbery, receiving stolen property and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to court records. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday in Jefferson District Court.

LMPD’s Robbery Unit is leading an investigation, Bradley said.
