Simpson started arguing with Williams on September 10, 2023 outside some apartments on Jean Street. The argument escalated to a physical fight. Simpson then drew a gun and shot Williams in the stomach.

But Simpson didn’t stop there. Williams ran for his life. Simpson chased him and shot him again.

The bad blood between Simpson and Williams involved a woman. Simpson was having sexual relations with the mother of Williams’ children, according to a previous News-Journal story.

Witnesses identified Simpson as the shooter.

“This case marks the second life sentence this week for violent crimes committed in the 7th Circuit,” State Attorney R.J. Larizza said about the case. “Ridding our communities of dangerous criminals is a mission we pursue every single day.”

The Daytona Beach Police Department investigated the case. Assistant State Attorneys Mike Willard and Philip Dunlop prosecuted Simpson.
