A 30-year-old man suffered severe burns in Chinatown Friday night when a suspect threw acid in his face, police said.
According to a Honolulu Police Department social media post, the victim was crossing the street when he was attacked just after 10 p.m.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said paramedics responded to North Hotel Street and treated the man for severe burns and took him to an emergency room. EMS said he taken to the hospital in serious condition but police listed his condition as critical.
HPD described the suspect as “an approximately 6-foot male wearing a blue-fitted shirt and a dew rag, with a camera around his neck and carrying a red bottle.”
Police said Honolulu Fire Department personnel identified the liquid as sulfuric acid and that the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call 911 or CrimeStoppers at 808-955-8300 or via the P3 Tips app.
