A second person has died after a father and son reportedly barricaded themselves in a Groton motel last week, leading to shots being fired after hours of negotiations.
Shaun Fallon, 56, of Charlestown, Rhode Island died on Monday at 8:47 p.m., according to Paul Gately, deputy chief of the Town of Groton Police Department.
Fallon and his son, 27-year-old Zachary Fallon also of Charlestown, were taken to the hospital following a standoff with authorities last Thursday at the Super 8 Motel on Route 12 that followed a bank robbery hours earlier, police said. The robbery was reported just after 10:30 a.m. at the Chelsea Groton Bank on the Gold Star Highway where two people wearing surgical masks implied that they had a gun and handed the teller a note demanding cash, according to police. They made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

The investigation led authorities to the motel around 5 p.m. when they found a vehicle believed to be used by the suspects. Detectives identified the room they believed the suspects were in and began a dialogue with them, according to police. The suspects, who were later identified as Shaun and Zachary Fallon, refused to leave the room, telling authorities they were armed with guns and had explosives in the room, police said.
The incident led to evacuations of the motel and nearby businesses as well as a response from multiple Connecticut State Police units. After hours of negotiations, police heard two gunshots come from the motel room.
Using a drone, state police were able to confirm both suspects were incapacitated in the room suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, police said. The state police Tactical Unit and Bomb Technicians entered the room and later found that there was no explosive.
Both suspects were given medical attention at the scene and taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where Zachary Fallon was pronounced dead.
According to police, the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Police on Tuesday said they would be releasing additional information at this time.
