Drought conditions continue to get worse around Florida and no rain is expected through the weekend.
There were 62 wildfires currently burning in Florida on Wednesday, April 16, affecting more than 2,000 acres, according to the Florida Forest Service. Most are contained.
The largest fire Wednesday was the 270-acre Powerline Fire in Volusia County.

Powerline Fire in Volusia County burning almost 300 acres
The largest wildfire in the state Wednesday morning, April 16, was the Powerline Fire in Volusia County.
The 270-acre fire was 80% contained.
15 active wildfires burning in Florida
There were 15 active wildfires burning more than 2,000 acres in Florida April 16, 2025, as drought conditions around the state worsen.
Elsewhere in the state, there were 13 active wildfires burning as of Tuesday morning.
The largest are:
Powerline Fire: Volusia County, 270 acres. 80% contained.
Calf Barn Road Fire: Gulf County, 108 acres. 90% contained.
Corinna Street Fire: Escambia County, 30 acres. 95% contained.
NE 134th Street Fire: Alachua County, 25 acres. 60% contained.
