Maria Zack, Bill Reicherter face off in GOP primary for Florida House

Must read

Republican candidates Maria Zack and William “Bill” Reicherter will square off Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the special primary for Florida House District 90. The winner will advance to the Dec. 9 special election against Democrat Rob Long and independent Karen Yeh.

Long, the vice mayor of Delray Beach, entered the race this summer with widespread support from local Democratic officials and unions. Yeh, a businesswoman, qualified as a no-party candidate.

The race was triggered by the death of state Rep. Joe Casello, a Democrat first elected in 2018. Gov. Ron DeSantis scheduled the special election, setting up a shortened campaign season.

District 90 includes parts of Boynton Beach and Delray Beach and is one of Palm Beach County’s most reliably Democratic districts. Only Republicans who registered by Sept. 2 are eligible to vote in Tuesday’s primary, while all district voters can participate in the Dec. 9 general election.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Vote-by-mail ballots must be received by 7 p.m. at the Supervisor of Elections main office, or by 5 p.m. at one of the branch offices. Ballots can be tracked through BallotTrax or by visiting VotePalmBeach.gov.

Early voting ran Sept. 20-28 for the primary. For the general election, the registration deadline is Nov. 10, with early voting scheduled Nov. 29-Dec. 7.

Because of the election’s timing, District 90 will go without representation during the fall committee weeks in Tallahassee. But the new lawmaker will be seated in time for the 2026 legislative session.
