SHEBOYGAN – Maywood Prairie Walk will be July 26 at Maywood Environmental Park, 3615 Mueller Road, Sheboygan.
The event is in its third year and promotes the incorporation of native prairie plantings in home landscapes.
Admission is free and a variety of activities are planned throughout the day.

Author Mariette Nowak will keynote Sheboygan’s Maywood Prairie Walk.
Birdscaping expert Mariette Nowak has observed 123 different bird species in her yard in East Troy.
Mariette Nowak, author of “Birdscaping for Wisconsin and the Great Lakes Region,” will be the keynote speaker for this year’s Maywood Prairie Walk.
Nowak will speak from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Maywood Ecology Center. Her presentation will discuss how to create a pocket prairie in your yard.
Nowak’s talk will cover the best plants for attracting insects and seeds for prairie birds, as well as the role of native plants in capturing carbon and mitigating climate change.
Self-guided tours of local prairies will be part of Maywood Prairie Walk.

From 9 a.m. to noon, Prairie Walk attendees can take self-guided tours of local prairies, including:
Ralph’s Prairie, W3143 County FF, Howards Grove; and
Sheboygan Water Utility Site, 4015 Erie Ave., Sheboygan.
These prairies, a news release said, showcase the benefits of native plantings and their role in reducing maintenance needs and supporting local wildlife.
Local food trucks and musical entertainment are also part of Maywood Prairie Walk.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., local food trucks No Pork on Your Fork and Frost-Bite will be available at Maywood, along with community partner booths, nature activities, crafts and games.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Eric and Cory from The Belle Weather, performing 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-3 p.m.

Door prizes and free sample seed packets are also included at Maywood Prairie Walk.

Maywood Prairie Walk will also feature door prize drawings, free sample seed packets (while supplies last) and informational handouts on prairie plants.
Tickets for Maywood’s Prairie Benefit Raffle will be available for purchase, with the drawing taking place in September.
