Must read

A 30-year-old male motorcyclist from Detroit was pronounced dead in the roadway of eastbound Interstate 96 after crashing on westbound I-96 near Evergreen Road in Detroit around 9:25 p.m. Friday, June 6, police said.

The Detroit Regional Communications Center received numerous 911 calls of a motorcycle down on the left shoulder of westbound I-96 without a rider, according to a statement by Michigan State Police Second District on X.

A trooper who arrived on scene saw a subject motionless in the eastbound I-96 roadway, and preliminary investigation showed a male motorcyclist “traveling at a high rate of speed” lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle after hitting the left side concrete wall of westbound I-96, according to the statement by MSP Second District on X.

There were no other injuries of vehicles involved in the crash, police said.

“As we begin motorcycle season, this crash serves as a reminder that motorcycle operators need to follow all traffic laws,” Lt. Mike Shaw said in the X statement. “If you operate a motorcycle, be sure to wear protective gear, have an endorsement, and drive safely.”

Michigan State Police did not immediately respond to requests to comment.
