Candidate filing for the Town of Woodfin, Town of Weaverville, and Woodfin Water & Sewer District started at 8 a.m. July 7 and runs through noon on Friday, July 18.
The municipal election will be held on Nov. 4. Races will include Town of Weaverville mayor, Weaverville Town Council (three seats), Woodfin Town Council (three seats), Woodfin Sanitary Water & Sewer District Trustee (three seats). Only residents within the town limits of Weaverville, Woodfin and/or Woodfin Water & Sewer District are eligible to vote.
Municipal elections for Weaverville and Woodfin will be held Nov. 4, 2025.
When do I file?
Town of Weaverville, Town of Woodfin, and Woodfin Water & Sewer: 8 a.m. July 7-noon July 18
NC Senate, NC House, Buncombe County, City of Asheville, and Asheville School Board: Noon Dec. 1-noon Dec. 19
Where do I file?
35 Woodfin St., downtown Asheville. The Notice of Candidacy form will be completed at the office. Candidates do not need to bring this form with them to file. If you will not be filing in person, email nathaniel.speier@buncombecounty.org.

What are the qualifications?
Must be a registered voter of Buncombe County.
Must be at least 21 years old on Election Day (NC Senate: 25 years old).
Where there is a district, must also reside within that district.
Sheriff: must submit a disclosure statement prepared by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission. The statement is valid for 90 days after issuance and must be submitted at the time of filing for office.
NC Senate: Must be a North Carolina resident for two years by Nov. 3, 2026, within the district for one year by Nov. 3, 2026.
NC House: Must be a resident within the district for 1oneyear by Nov. 3, 2026.
Must be registered with a NC recognized political party for at least 90 days at the time of filing your Notice of Candidacy (for partisan contests).
City of Asheville, Asheville School Board, Weaverville and Woodfin: Must be a resident within the municipal corporate limits.

What do I need to bring?
A valid NC driver license or photo ID for notarization.
Payment method for filing fee is check or money order; filing fees under $50 may be made in cash.

Campaign finance information
All candidates are required to open a candidate committee. A candidate committee is required to register within 10 days of:
Receiving money or anything of value in support of the campaign; or
Spending money in support of the campaign; or
Giving consent for anyone else to receive money or spend money for the purpose of bringing about that individual’s nomination or election for office; or
Filing a notice of candidacy.
