Police have arrested a New Jersey man who was found at the scene of a fatal stabbing with suspected blood on his hands, authorities said.
Justin J. Wilhelm, 25, of the Landing section of Roxbury in Morris County, was taken into custody Thursday on a first-degree murder charge as well as possessing narcotics and weapons offenses, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
Wilhelm reportedly called 911 at 2:58 a.m., sending police to a home on River Road in New Milford. When officers arrived, Wilhelm was on the front steps with what was suspected to be blood on both of his hands, authorities said.
Police then entered the home and found 24-year-old Mateo Ocho-Gonzalez, of New Mildford, in a second-floor room with stab wounds to the chest and neck area, officials said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Following an investigation, authorities alleged that Wilhelm was in possession of narcotics and stabbed the victim multiple times.
In the statement released on Thursday, prosecutors did not release the details of Wilhelm’s 911 call.
The suspect was apprehended on the scene and brought to a local hospital for evaluation. He remains in police custody.
