Following months of construction, a new Wawa along the Newtown Bypass is set to open this week with free hot coffee for customers and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Located near Newtown’s border with Middletown Township, the new 5,500-square-foot Wawa at 91 Lower Silver Lake Road is to officially open its doors Thursday, July 31.
Doors are to open for the first time at 8 a.m. The first 100 customers are to receive a free T-shirt. Customers are also to be offered a free any size hot coffee through Aug. 3.

A ribbon-cutting event is to follow opening remarks at 8:30 a.m., in addition to Hoagies for Heroes, a hoagie-building competition between members of local police and fire departments.
At the end of the day, $1,000 will be donated to each department’s charity of choice, the company said in a statement.
The new Wawa at the corner of Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road includes solar panels on the canopy over the gas pumps, a first for the company in the Pennsylvania.
The new store will be energy-efficient and includes solar panels and multiple electric vehicle charging stations, the company said in a statement.
“This is the first Wawa store in Pennsylvania with solar panels, which are located on the fuel canopy and expect to provide up to 20% of the store’s energy utilization,” according to the company.
Wawa currently operates 141 total stores with solar panels. These include 130 in New Jersey, 10 in Maryland and now one in Pennsylvania.
