Aug. 10—A woman from the New Mexico National Guard was arrested Thursday night after allegedly hitting a police officer and assaulting a bouncer at a local country bar.
Selena Martinez, 21, of the Santo Domingo Pueblo, is facing one count of battery on a peace officer, two counts of battery and one count of resisting arrest. Martinez does not currently have an attorney, according to court records.
On Thursday, officers were dispatched to Dirty Bourbon — a local country bar — after Martinez was kicked out of the bar after a bouncer said she was too drunk, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.
Martinez, who initially complied with bouncers, walked out of the bar before stopping to finish her beer. She had spilled beer down her shirt and a bouncer told Martinez she was taking too long and needed to leave the premises, the complaint stated.
“Selena (Martinez) reached for the beer in the trash can and then came up swinging, striking (the bouncer) in the left shoulder,” the complaint said.
After leaving the bar, Martinez was handcuffed. According to the criminal complaint, Martinez began kicking Dirty Bourbon employees several times before attempting to run away while handcuffed.
Martinez identified herself as a member of an Army National Guard unit based in Santa Fe, and insisted on speaking with her sergeant, “stating she knew her rights as a soldier,” the complaint stated. Martinez continued to fight against officers, pulling against them and falling to the floor while officers tried to arrest her.
Initially, the bar requested that Martinez receive a criminal trespass notice. “However her behavior was so out of control I eventually decided she would be arrested,” an officer wrote in the complaint.
Officers were able to secure her in a police vehicle, and Martinez kicked another officer in the chest, according to the complaint.
