Jul. 28—Starting on Monday, Comanche NE at Interstate 25 will be closed daily from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. so part of the bridge over Comanche can be demolished, according to I-25 Improved.
The work is expected to take about two weeks.
Drivers, who will be rerouted via Candelaria and Montgomery NE, should anticipate heavy travel delays, plan ahead and follow posted signage overnight.
The bridge work is part of the Interstate 25 Comanche to Montgomery improvement project, which began in August and is slated to be finished in spring 2027.

TRAMWAY STUDY: Readers John and Martha Bundrant said they are concerned about the drivers at Tramway and Central SE.
“The lane going across Central to the 4 Hills Village shopping center goes straight across and the cars coming in the middle lane cross over into this lane (and go) very fast and have almost caused many wrecks,” they said in an email. “They need to put arrows showing where this lane is supposed to go.
“This is very dangerous, and annoying.”
Perhaps their concern will be addressed at a public meeting where the New Mexico Department of Transportation will discuss a study it is conducting on Tramway between Central and Live Oak NE.
“The purpose of the study is to evaluate traffic operations, intersection design, and safety concerns impacting motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians who use this important corridor,” NMDOT spokesperson Kim Gallegos said in a news release on Friday.
The event is slated to take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center, 501 Elizabeth SE.
“Community members are encouraged to attend and share their input, which will help shape the study’s outcomes and future roadway improvements,” Gallegos said.

STORM DRAINS: A project to address flooding in the South Valley will be discussed at an upcoming public meeting.
From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Westside Community Center, 1250 Isleta SW, Bernalillo County engineers will talk about a project aimed at reducing flooding and making roads safer.
The project includes putting in new storm drains to better manage rainwater, as well as new sidewalks, bike lanes and curbs, said Bernalillo County spokesperson Melissa Smith.
The meeting will focus on Phase 2B of the project, which covers improvements from Barcelona Circle west to the Isleta Drain, including Barcelona Circle, Vega Verde Street and Yuma Road, she said.
“Residents are encouraged to attend and stay informed about how this project may affect their neighborhood,” Smith said.
ROAD EXPANSION: On Aug. 6, NMDOT will host a meeting to talk about a study on a proposed 7.5-mile extension of Paseo del Volcan from Rainbow Boulevard to Southern Boulevard in Sandoval County.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Star Heights Recreation Center, 800 Polaris Blvd., in Rio Rancho.
The project will “improve access to jobs, schools, and services in Rio Rancho,” according to NMDOT.
The study is expected to be finished in the fall, she said.
