Investigators do not suspect foul play in the death of a Santa Fe woman whose body was found Friday near a state park just outside the city, according to a statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.
The agency identified the woman as 43-year-old Laura Freismuth of Santa Fe. Investigators believe she was walking off a road in the Hyde Park area when she suffered a “medical episode,” a Tuesday news release states.
The agency wrote investigators found no signs of foul play on Freismuth’s remains or in the area where her body was found.
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Denise Womack-Avila said Freismuth’s body was found off Hyde Park Road near the trailhead of Little Tesuque Trail.
About 10 sheriff’s office vehicles could be seen parked off the side of the road Friday afternoon, and an area was marked off with police tape.
Investigators believe Freismuth died Friday, the same day she was found. Her body was discovered in the afternoon by a hiker, and sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area at about 4 p.m. to investigate the death, statements from the agency have said.
Sheriff’s deputies said over the weekend Freismuth appeared to have been jogging when she died. Womack-Avila said Tuesday she may have been jogging or walking.
“There are still a few unanswered questions,” Womack-Avila said, noting there are not yet any reports available in the investigation.
The cause of Freismuth’s death is being investigated by the state Office of the Medical Investigator, Womack-Avila said, but there were no visible signs of injury on her body.
The sheriff’s office release said family members had been notified about Freismuth’s death.
Past reports show she graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1999 with honors.
