One dead after vehicle strikes buggy near Loyal

NEILLSVILLE — One person died Saturday after a horse-drawn buggy collided with a vehicle in the town of Loyal, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at about 2:51 p.m. Saturday on Highway K, north of Spencer Road, in the town of Loyal.

The initial investigation indicates that a buggy was northbound on Highway K when a van that was also northbound struck it from the rear, wrote Chief Deputy James Hirsch.

“Both the buggy and van came to rest in the east ditch,” Hirsch wrote. “The buggy had two passengers in it. The adult passenger died at the scene of the crash and the 12-year-old passenger was transported to the Marshfield Medical Center with serious injuries.”

The van had one passenger in it who was not injured. The press release does not indicate if that person was arrested or cited.

The names of everyone involved are not being released at this time.

The Loyal Area Fire and Ambulance Service responded to the scene with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Marshfield Fire Ambulance Service and the Clark County Coroner’s Office. The investigation of the crash is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Clark County Coroner’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
