Palmdale woman arrested for murder following death of 2-year-old son from fentanyl

Homicide detectives have arrested a Palmdale woman on suspicion of murder following an “exhaustive investigation” into the death of her 2-year-old son from fentanyl poisoning nearly two years ago.

Anaie Flores, 23, of was taken into custody Thursday, Oct. 9, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department booking records. She was being held in lieu of $2 million bail pending an initial court appearance.

The charge stems from the Nov. 7, 2023 death of Angel Flores, according to sheriff’s and county coroner’s officials.

Deputies responded to a “rescue call” just after 5 p.m. at a home in the 800 block of East Avenue P 15, sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.

First responders encountered a 2-year-old boy who was unresponsive, authorities said at the time. The child was rushed to a hospital, but could not be saved.

“The child’s death was determined to have been caused by fentanyl ingestion,” the statement said. “After an exhaustive investigation, Homicide Bureau investigators have arrested the child’s mother.”

An autopsy determined the baby died from “effects of fentanyl exposure,” according to coroner’s records.

No further details were released.

An arraignment hearing was scheduled for Monday, Oct. 13, in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
