Apr. 18—PAULDING — Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative has launched the construction phase of its high-speed fiber internet project, aiming to improve connectivity for rural communities in Northwest Ohio and Northeast Indiana, according to a press release.

Mainline fiber work began April 15 in Haviland with contractor ITG Communications handling the installation. Construction in the Roselm substation area is set for June.

Service is expected to reach the first customers by fall 2025.

The project not only targets underserved homes and businesses but will also improve electric reliability through better communication between substations.

“The electric side will benefit as well,” Nick Eltzroth, chief operating officer, said in a press release.

“It will allow PPEC to detect and restore power outages more quickly with improved communication between equipment.”

The co-op also invites video submissions explaining the need for high-speed internet. Entries can be sent via email to fiber@ppec.coop.

“We really do want to hear from you,” CEO Randy Price said in a press release.

Progress updates will be shared at ppec.coop/fiberupdates and during Member Appreciation Day on July 12, 2025, at co-op headquarters, 401 McDonald Pike, Paulding.

PPEC is hiring a Broadband Technician and IT & Broadband Systems Manager to support the rollout. Details are available at bit.ly/3YvVlK7.
