The Metamora community swimming pool was set to open Friday, June 13, after costly but necessary renovations had put the season in doubt.
“After facing $70,000–$100,000 in needed repairs, we weren’t sure we’d be able to open this year. But thanks to the incredible support from our community, we were able to begin repairs and get the main pool ready for the season!” wrote the Metamora Park District in a Thursday post on the Metamora Swimming Pool Facebook page.
In June 2024, the park district said that, without major renovations, the pool had “reached the end of its practical lifespan” and the “aged facility” was “just one major repair away from being … unfit for use.”

“This is a huge moment for our town,” read the Thursday post. “Repairs are still ongoing, including work on the baby pool, which will remain closed for now — but the main pool is open and ready for summer fun.”
The facility at 116 N. Douglas St. features two pools and dedicated times for lap swim and tot time, among other attractions. General public swim hours are 12:30-6 p.m. seven days a week. For more information, visit the park district website.
