Permit approved for Dola swine farm

Apr. 30—DOLA — The Ohio Department of Agriculture has issued a final permit to operate renewal for Hefner’s Swine Farm, 3507 township Road 105, Dola, according to the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Livestock Environmental Permitting office. The final permit will last for five years.

The facility has an existing design capacity of 4,200 swine weighing more than 55 pounds housed in four deep pit finishing barns.

An estimated 2 million gallons of liquid swine manure would be generated by the facility annually and stored in concrete pits below the barns. Each pit would provide about 276,000 gallons or 200 days’ worth of storage. An off-site storage tank will provide an additional 300,000 gallons of storage.

The final permit may be appealed.The notice of Appeal and the filing fee must be sent to: Environmental Review Appeals Commission, 30 E. Broad St., 4th floor, Columbus, Ohio, 43215, by 5 p.m. Friday, May. 23.
