Police are asking the public to help them identify five young white males who they believe attacked a college student in downtown Boston late Saturday night.
Officers responded to the assault near 140 Tremont St. shortly after 11 p.m., according to a redacted police report about the attack. At the scene, officers noticed the victim bleeding from a cut on the left side of his head, and paramedics were called.
The victim told police he was walking down Tremont Street towards Boylston Street when a group of five young drunken white males walked past him in the opposite direction, according to the report. One of the males forcibly bumped into him and almost knocked him down.
The victim told police he responded by pushing the male back, and that’s when the other four males in the group surrounded him, according to the report. They pushed the victim, broke a bottle over his head and put him in a headlock — forcing him to the ground.
The victim told police the group then ran away up Tremont Street towards Winter Place, according to the report. He wasn’t sure which male had hit him with the bottle, as it happened so quickly, but police found broken glass at the scene.
The victim told police that the males all “looked like teenagers” and had no facial hair, according to the report. Two witnesses told officers at the scene that they didn’t see the attack, but heard a man yelling and glass shattering, then saw the group running up Tremont Street.
Suffolk University student Aidan Knaster identified himself as the victim in the assault to Boston 25 News. He told the news station he was walking to his dorm when one of the males “body-checked” him.
“They were saying horrible things to me, just kind of started pushing me around,” he said.
While surrounded, the group beat Knaster to the point of unconsciousness, leaving him with a concussion and four stitches, Boston 25 News reported.
Police are actively investigating the incident as an assault and battery. Anyone with information about it is asked to call them at (617) 343-4571.
