Police ID two men fatally shot after fight broke out in New Haven

Police have identified two men killed when an alleged argument in New Haven on Monday escalated into a fight and gunshots being fired.

The victims were identified on Wednesday as 26-year-old Daiquan Hyman of East Haven and 32-year-old Ernest Williams of New Haven, according to the New Haven Police Department.

Police said both men died after officers responded to the 70 block of Dickerman Street at 2:12 p.m. on Monday on the report of a double shooting. Hyman and Williams were found unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to police, both victims were rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital.

Hyman was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, police said. Williams succumbed to his injuries later in the evening, according to police.

Police said their investigation has found that an altercation allegedly broke out between a group of men, which began with an argument. A fight then broke out before the shooting, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
