ELKHART — A man was shot and his truck stolen after he confronted a masked man attempting to break into his vehicle early Saturday, police said.
Officers were looking for the stolen truck and a male subject and female suspect in connection with the incident, the Elkhart Police Department said.
The Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call at 5:16 a.m. of a shooting with injuries at 2300 W. Mishawaka Road, an industrial area on the city’s west side. Officers located a 51-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers and medics rendered first aid at the scene before the man was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of what was believed to be a non-life-threatening injury.
An initial investigation indicates that the victim confronted a masked subject attempting to break into the victim’s vehicle, the report said. During the incident, the subject allegedly shot the victim in the leg and drove away with a female subject in the victim’s truck. Police were looking for this vehicle, a 1998 black Chevrolet GMT, with Indiana truck plate 580OSS. Anyone who sees this vehicle is advised not to approach the vehicle and to call 911 immediately.
