Having a cool time at Prattville’s CityFest takes on new meaning in the middle of an Alabama summer.
After a couple of days with rain, temperatures on July 19 are expected to go up to 94, with lots of humidity and a chance of more storms that afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
To help families as they show up to the Fairgrounds at Mac Gray Park, 1050 Martin Luther King Drive, CityFest will offer heat relief to go with a day of fun, food, entertainment and shopping. The free admission event goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are committed to the health and safety of our vendors and guests,” said Patty VanderWal, president of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce. “With the forecasted heat, we’ve taken extra steps to keep everyone cool and cared for.”
The Chamber announced it is working with the Prattville Fire Department and local volunteer fire personnel to provide heat relief that day. Cooling tents will be stationed throughout the park, and free bottled water from Eleven86 Water will be available. EMS crews from the Prattville Fire Department will be present all day in case of emergency medical needs.
The Chamber encouraged CityFest guests to stay hydrated that day, and to also drink water ahead of their arrival. Attendees should wear light, breathable clothing.
The Chamber said it will continue to monitor weather and heat conditions throughout the event and will provide updates as needed.
