Aug. 10—A 19-year-old Lester man was arrested Saturday night after police say he led officers on a high-speed chase down Interstate 65, weaving through traffic and nearly causing crashes before spike strips stopped his truck.

Around 11 p.m., Priceville Police said an officer spotted a silver pickup truck traveling at excessive speeds southbound on I-65. Attempts to stop the vehicle failed when the driver refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit that continued south.

During the chase, the driver weaved recklessly through traffic, used the shoulder to pass vehicles and nearly caused two collisions, according to police. Officers said the driver also threw items from the truck while fleeing.

Falkville Police deployed spike strips near the Thompson Road exit, disabling the truck.

The driver, identified as Jeremiah Hawke McLemore, of Lester, was taken into custody without further incident. A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was released to a guardian.

McLemore faces multiple charges, including felony attempting to elude law enforcement, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, possession of brass knuckles and criminal littering. His bond was set at $7,200.

Police did not specify what items were discarded from the truck during the chase.
