Aug. 25—A Birmingham man was arrested early Saturday after Priceville police said they found drugs, a firearm and a child in his vehicle during a traffic stop on Interstate 65.

Police said officers stopped the vehicle at 12:30 a.m. near mile marker 334. Two adults and an 8-year-old child were inside the vehicle.

Officers said they developed probable cause to search the car and discovered a liquid synthetic opioid/fentanyl mixture, marijuana and a firearm.

Leshawn Demetrius Tate, 36, was arrested and taken to the Morgan County Jail, where he remained Monday in lieu of a $75,000 bond. He faces charges of trafficking in dangerous drugs, chemical endangerment of a child, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence, according to police.

The juvenile passenger was released to a guardian. Authorities said the Jefferson County Department of Human Resources will follow up.

The firearm was seized, and investigators are reviewing Tate’s criminal history. Police said an additional charge for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person may be pursued.
