The city of Pueblo is gearing up for a pothole-filling “blitz” from June 23 through June 27 and is seeking your input to identify the most problematic potholes in the Steel City.
Puebloans are encouraged to submit their suggestions to the Department of Public Works for the upcoming effort, according to a city news release.
“We’re asking residents to let us know where their biggest pain spots are throughout the city,” Acting Director of Public Works Chuck Roy said in the release. “The City has done our street assessment for major artillery roads, and we have long-term plans for paving, sealing, patchwork and other needs. What we’re seeking is for our residents to let us know about the potholes that affect their everyday drive in their neighborhood that isn’t scheduled for major road maintenance.”
The city of Pueblo is seeking the public’s input on the most problematic potholes on city streets for an upcoming pothole-filling “blitz.”
Requests, which should include the cross streets and location of the pothole to help the department identify the area, can be sent to pubworks@pueblo.us. No private streets, business parking lots, or streets outside of city limits, including Colorado state highways or roads, will be considered, according to the release.
An assessment of the pavement on Pueblo roads was conducted by Roadway Asset Services (RAS) in 2022, which evaluated pavement based on the “type, severity and density of distress.”
The report, which collected data from Jan. 24, 2022, to March 9, 2022, evaluated nearly 500 centerline miles of roadway, nearly 99% of which are asphalt. Centerline miles represent the total length of a given road, regardless of the number of lanes.
RAS’ assessment found approximately 5.3% of Pueblo roads were in “good” condition, 21.1% were in “satisfactory” condition, 47.9% were in “satisfactory” condition, 17.4% were in “poor” condition, and a combined 8.3% were in “very poor” or “serious” condition.
The Pueblo roadway network, as a whole, was considered in “fair” condition as of the 2022 report.
Data from the report has since served as a partial guiding force for how the city decides which roads to prioritize for repairs, the Chieftain reported in 2023.
