An outgoing pup with a “goofy” personality hasn’t left a Washington animal shelter in 700 days.

Dr. Pepper has been patiently waiting for a new home.

The 5-year-old pup has spent most of his life in a shelter, the Spokane Humane Society said in an April 7 news release.

A family adopted him and brought him home for about four months before returning him to the shelter, the humane society said.

Before that, he had been in the Spokane shelter for two years after getting transferred from a Texas rescue.

Dr. Pepper is “extroverted,” “goofy,” and a favorite among workers and volunteers, the humane society said.

But he’s a pup who needs to be in a home with a fenced backyard and no other animals because he has a “dominant playstyle,” the organization said.

He’s also comfortable wearing a muzzle during walks but will take some time adjusting to his new home, the shelter said.

“Dr. Pepper deserves to be seen as more than a long-term shelter dog, but as a sweet, social butterfly who loves to run and play,” the humane society said in the release. “Help us give Dr. Pepper the second chance he undeniably deserves.”
