Some areas along the coast of Tampa Bay experienced flooding overnight Thursday and into the July 4 holiday Friday.
With up to several inches of rain expected over the weekend in some areas of Pinellas and Pasco counties, local residents shared images of submerged cars in flooded streets on social media in Madeira Beach and elsewhere.
Rain is still in the forecast for Friday, possibly dampening Fourth of July celebrations. Scattered thunderstorms Friday morning will lead to a possible lull with cloudy skies in the middle of the day, according to Bay News 9. Rain chances are the highest in the afternoon. Friday’s high is expected to be around 90 degrees.
More thunderstorms are expected overnight as they move through Tampa Bay from the north, Bay News 9 predicts. Lows will fall into the 70s overnight.
Meanwhile the National Hurricane Center increased the chance of development for a tropical system to form in the Atlantic Ocean east of Florida to 60% over the next two days, according to an 8 a.m. Friday update. The system is expected to move along the coast and over South Carolina by the end of the weekend.
