Randolph man seriously injured after armed robbery in Stoughton

A Randolph man was ordered held without bail Wednesday, Sept. 3, on charges he violently assaulted and robbed a 34-year-old man walking to his car after having dinner at a Stoughton restaurant in July, officials said in a statement.

The incident occurred Sunday, July 27, at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an unnamed business on Technology Center Drive, according to a statement from the Stoughton Police Department.

After a near month long investigation, Stoughton detectives identified one of the two suspects involved and ordered a warrant for his arrest on Aug. 21, court records show.

The suspect, a 33-year-old from Randolph, was arrested by Massachusetts State Police Tuesday on an unrelated traffic stop in Boston.

During the defendant’s arraignment in the Roxbury Division of Boston Municipal Court on the unrelated drug and motor vehicle charges, a judge ordered him transferred to Stoughton on the outstanding warrant.

He pleaded not guilty Wednesday, Sept. 3, in Stoughton District Court to charges of armed robbery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily harm and malicious destruction of property under $1,200.

He was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Sept. 8.

On Sunday, July 27, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Stoughton police officers responded to reports of a man who had been assaulted and robbed while walking to his car after having dinner at a local restaurant, police said.

The victim, a 34-year-old man from Randolph, was walking to his car when two men with firearms violently assaulted him and beat him with the weapon before fleeing with the victim’s wallet and two ounces of marijuana, police said.

The victim suffered several serious injuries that required surgery, police said.

Through an investigation led by Stoughton Detective Heather Cheever, one of the defendants, who was known to the victim, was identified.

The defendant and the victim were past aquaintances, police said. The victim believed the suspects were after his phone, wallet and two ounces of marijuana in his possession, police said.
