Jun. 17—WILKES-BARRE — A Wilkes-Barre man recently acquitted by a Luzerne County jury on charges he stabbed a man at an ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Hanover Township in 2024 was arrested by Wilkes-Barre City police on allegations he assaulted a woman early Tuesday morning.

Drake Partington, 23, of South River Street, arrived at the woman’s residence on Academy Street and refused to leave, police reported.

Police said the woman reported Drake Partington physically assaulted her by throwing her to the ground, pulled her hair and choked her before he fled the scene just before 1:30 a.m.

Police arrested Drake Partington who was arraigned by District Judge David Barilla of Forty Fort on charges of criminal trespass, strangulation, terroristic threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and possession of a controlled substance. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $10,000 bail.

A jury on May 6 acquitted Drake Partington on charges of terroristic threats and simple assault on allegations he stabbed a man at an ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Hanover Village, Hanover Township, on Jan. 23, 2024. He was also found not guilty on summary harassment offenses.

While Drake Partington was jailed at the county correctional facility on Jan. 24, 2024, his elder half-brother, Billy Partington, misrepresented himself and used Drake’s information to be released on bail.

An internal investigation found staff who worked at the county correctional facility’s booking and record’s unit failed to follow protocol despite Billy Partington never correcting corrections’ officers.

Billy Partington pled guilty to escape and was sentenced in July 2024, to six-months to one-year at the county prison.
