Relief is on the way from the brutal stretch of hot and humid weather that has plagued the Tri-State, but you’ll have to put up with three more days of misery.
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for the region, citing “dangerously hot conditions” for Monday and Tuesday. The “feels like” temperature − how our body perceives the temperature when humidity is factored in with the heat − could reach as high as 115 degrees both days.
When will it cool down?
There’s good news on the horizon: temperatures should cool off substantially on Thursday and then even more over the weekend.
After highs in the upper 90s Monday through Wednesday, the high will dip to 88 on Thursday and 84 on both Friday and Saturday.
And as a bonus: the humidity levels also will fall off. Dewpoints, a measure of the moisture in the air, have been in the 70s for several days. They’ll fall into the 60s on Friday and even dip into the 50s at times over the weekend.
Dealing with dangerous heat
With the high temperatures overstaying their welcome, area residents should watch for signs of heat stroke or exhaustion, the NWS says. Those include:
The weather service encourages people to hydrate and, if working outside, take frequent breaks. That advice will stand until the heat breaks – whenever that happens.
