A search and rescue effort is underway after a small airplane carrying three people crashed into the ocean off the coast of Monterey County late Saturday, July 26, authorities said.
What do we know about the plane crash in Monterey CA?
The crash was first reported shortly before 11 p.m. in the water near Pacific Grove, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The twin-engine Beechcraft went down 200 to 300 yards off the coast of Point Pinos.

“The Beechcraft has been located, and two people have been found unresponsive,” the USCG said in an written statement. “The search for the third person is still ongoing.”
Who joined the search and rescue effort?
A 29-foot Coast Guard boat arrived at the crash site in about 15 minutes, officials said. Additional boats, helicopters and drones joined the search and rescue effort. Local law enforcement and fire agencies also offered assistance.
The airplane originally departed from the San Carlos Airport, according to the USCG.
The aircraft, which was manufactured in 1974 and has a valid flight status, is registered to a Delaware-based aviation company, Federal Aviation Administration records show.
The National Transportation Safety Board is spearheading the crash investigation.
