Richmond police investigate case of man shot in chest early Saturday morning

RICHMOND, IN — Richmond police are investigating an incident early Saturday morning after a man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

Richmond Police Department officials said in a release Sunday that they were alerted about 3 a.m. Saturday to a person having difficulty breathing in the 800 block of North 19th Street.

Richmond Fire Department medics and firefighters had found an adult male with the wound, promptly requesting law enforcement assistance.

Officers executed a search warrant and gathered evidence while the man was transported to Reid Health for treatment, police said. He was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

Police say the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community.

The man’s identity, age and condition have not been released.
