RICHMOND, IN — The city of Richmond has received a $257,165 grant to help finance the reconstruction of the terminal at Richmond Municipal Airport.
The grant awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration is intended to complete Phase 1 of the project, according to a press release from the city.
The release said the money will “enable essential preliminary work for the new terminal, including detailed architectural and engineering designs, site preparation and environmental assessments.”
“Our Richmond Municipal Airport is an economic hub for eastern Indiana’s ‘All-American’ city,” state congressman Jefferson Shreve said in the release. “I’m thankful to be able to bring back federal funds to upgrade an aging terminal in our community.”
Shreve is expected to visit the airport in the coming weeks in anticipation of the start of the project, the release said.
“This grant is a testament to the importance of the Richmond Municipal Airport as a regional asset and our commitment to enhancing its capabilities,” Richmond Mayor Ron Oler said in the release. “A modern airport terminal is vital for economic development, attracting new businesses and providing improved services for our citizens.”
Richmond Municipal airport Manager Rodney Mayse said the money will give the airport the opportunity to streamline operations and enhance the travel experience for both residents and visitors.
Further details on the project timeline and public engagement opportunities will beannounced as Phase 1 progresses, the release said.
