President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani has reportedly reached a “confidential settlement” in the $1.3 billion defamation suit with Dominion Voting Systems on Saturday.
Dominion sued Giuliani in 2021 over false allegations surrounding the 2020 presidential election.
“The suit accused Giuliani of carrying out ‘defamatory falsehoods’ about Dominion in the wake of the 2020 election in part to enrich himself through legal fees and his podcast,” ABC reported.
“A court filing in the ongoing civil case against Giuliani on Friday showed the parties seeking a voluntary dismissal of the matter. No details about the settlement were made available,” the report said.
The filing added that each party would pay their own “attorneys’ fees, expenses, and costs.”
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. A Dominion spokesperson told ABC that both parties “have agreed to a confidential settlement to this matter.”
Giuliani was disbarred in New York and Washington, D.C., over his actions to prove the 2020 election was stolen. And earlier this month, “he was ordered to pay more than $1.36 million to his former lawyers for unpaid legal fees,” The Washington Post reported.
The ex-New York City mayor’s settlement comes days after Dominion settled with another MAGA proponent, one-time Trump attorney, Sidney Powell.
In April 2023, Fox News settled with Dominion for $787.5 million after Fox repeatedly aired false claims that Dominion’s voting booths helped rig the 2020 election against Donald Trump.
The false claims that the election was rigged led to the January 6, 2021, Capitol Riots after Trump urged MAGA supporters to march to the Rotunda.
Also this week, a federal judge ruled against “My Pillow” CEO Mike Lindell in his 2021 defamation suit with Smartmatic.
The judge ruled that none of Lindell’s conspiracy claims were rooted in fact, including that Smartmatic was part of a plot to steal the 2020 election from Trump.
Lindell alleged that Smartmatic’s machines were connected to the internet and programmed to flip votes to former President Joe Biden, all of which were proved to be untrue.
Lindell owes millions of dollars from multiple court judgements and lawsuits over his conspiratorial claims.
