Sam’s Club remodeling all its stores, and opening two locations nationwide

Must read

All of the current Sam’s Club stores, including the stores located in the mid-Hudson, will be remodeled and about 15 new stores are expected to open per year, the company recently announced. During Walmart Inc.’s 2025 Investment Community Meeting on April 9, CEO Chris Nicholas said the company is emphasizing a strategy based on improving membership numbers and expanding physical and digital capabilities, USA TODAY reported.

“This is one of the fastest, most scalable transformations happening in retail today,” Nicholas said in a news release on April 11. “We’re investing with intention — in our fleet, our associates and the member experience — to become the world’s best club retailer.”

In January 2023, the company announced plans to open 30 new clubs across the country “over the next several years” in addition to announcing a “multiple-year plan to invest in and modernize” its supply chain. In last week’s announcement, Sam’s Club said it will still open 30 new locations “while building a pipeline to open approximately 15 new clubs each year over the planning horizon.”

Here’s what to know.

Two new Sam’s Club locations will open this fiscal year, a Sam’s Club spokesperson told USA TODAY. Here’s where:

  • Tempe, Arizona

  • Lebanon, Tennessee

Both locations will be the first Sam’s Club stores in these cities.

There are currently 12 Sam’s Club stores in New York. Here’s where they’re located:

  • 3735 Union Road in Cheektowaga

  • 830 County Road 64, Suite 2, in Elmira

  • 333 Saw Mill River Road in Elmsford

  • 56 West Merritt Blvd. in Fishkill

  • 801 Frank Sotille Blvd. in Kingston

  • 579 Troy/Schenectady Road, Suite 236, in Latham

  • 2950 Horse Block Road in Medford

  • 1580 Military Road in Niagara Falls

  • 7 Consumer Square in Plattsburgh

  • 2441 Vestal Parkway East in Vestal

  • 300 North Galleria Drive in Wallkill

  • 21314 Sam’s Drive in Watertown

The remodeled stores will follow the model of a store that reopened in Grapevine, Texas, in late 2024 after being forced to close due to damage sustained during an EF-1 tornado in December 2022.

After “extensive renovations,” the location introduced the company’s transition to a “register-free shopping experience.”

“High-top tables near the showroom and entrance are staffed by member specialists ready to assist anyone new to Scan & Go,” the company said in news release in December 2024, adding that the register-free experience was “met with enthusiasm, with the majority of members preferring the streamlined system in its first week.”
