Jul. 28—All of south-central Minnesota is under a high risk for severe thunderstorms Monday night, with damaging wind, hail, torrential rain and a few possible tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a potential for wind gusts greater than 70 mph in the area.
The weather agency has rated the severe outlook probability as a 4 out of 5, with 5 being high risk and 4 being moderate risk.
The area has a 45 to 59% chance of having gusts exceeding 75 mph. Recent excessive rainfall across the area makes trees more susceptible to being damaged and uprooted.
While the tornado and hail risks are lower than the damaging wind risk, they can’t be ruled out, according to the Weather Service.
Timing remains uncertain, but the storm is likely to hit Albert Lea between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.
Torrential rainfalls are possible of between 2 and 3 inches per hour.
