Severe weather threat increases for Central Florida on Friday afternoon

Must read

Central Florida could see dangerous thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Storm storms with a marginal risk of winds up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of a quarter, and even a brief tornado are possible along with lightning and heavy rainfall warned the NWS.

This comes alongside hot and humid conditions that persist with heat indices that could range from 100 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

A weather pattern from the Florida panhandle will keep the normal inland east coast sea breeze until later in the afternoon, so that when it does venture further into Central Florida, there is a 60-70% chance of precipitation that could bring 1-3 inches of rain in some areas.

“Convection may linger as late as around 10 p.m. before diminishing,” forecasters said. “Drier conditions are then expected for the remainder of the overnight hours.”

Weekend wind patterns will continue a high chance for afternoon and evening showers over the weekend, but severe weather is less likely. Rainfall, though, could benefit the region that has had drought conditions this year.

“Hot temperatures continue, with highs in the lower 90s. Increasingly humid conditions will lead to peak heat indices 100-105,” forecasters said.
