A cold front moving across the central U.S. will create severe thunderstorms in the Midwest, though the front will only bring rain showers to Michigan, officials said.
“On Wednesday, a front extending from the Upper Mississippi Valley to the Central Plains/Central Rockies will move eastward to the Northeast, westward to the Middle Mississippi Valley, and southwestward into the Southern Plains by Friday morning,” the National Weather Service said on its website.
Even though Michigan is not expected to get severe thunderstorms, there is a hazardous weather outlook in place for northern Michigan and Lower Michigan as rain moves across the state Wednesday, April 23.
“Late this afternoon and evening showers and storms are expected with the best chances north of I-96,” the weather service said. “Isolated stronger storms may produce hail and gusty winds. Thursday will provide a nice break before rain and storm chances return for Friday. Cooler temperatures are expected along the lake with 70s to low 80s inland.”
Michigan will most of the cold front’s impact on April 25. The weather service predicts widespread rain showers in the morning and evening hours.
Even though the rain will be steady on April 25, warm temperatures are expected for Thursday, April 24, and Friday heading into the weekend.
The Lower Peninsula can expect highs in the upper 70s reaching 80 degrees. In southwest Michigan, highs could reach the lower 80s on Friday.
In the Upper Peninsula, the highs Friday will be in the 50s with rain.

“As of now, the potential for severe thunderstorms favors areas south/west. Be sure to monitor the forecast for the latest updates!” the NWS in Gaylord said on April 23. “Looking ahead, shower and thunder chances carry through Thursday and Friday, with the most widespread coverage coming Thursday night into Friday. We then dry out for the weekend with pleasant temperatures.”

Wider spread showers with embedded thunderstorms likely Friday afternoon through Friday night as low pressure lifts through the Great Lakes.”
