A man who had recently been released from a state prison was shot and killed in Pompano Beach more than six months ago, and detectives have now released surveillance footage that they say shows the shooter who still has not been identified.
Roderick Henry was found near the 400 block of Southwest Second Street and pronounced dead there shortly before midnight on Dec. 1, 2024. He had been shot multiple times nearby, in the 300 block of Avondale Drive, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Henry was staying at an inmate work release facility at the time of his murder, completing a prison sentence for crimes he was convicted of in Palm Beach County, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Turning Point Bridge, a community release facility focused on substance abuse treatment, is located in the 400 block of Southwest Second Street, just near where the shooting occurred.
Florida Department of Corrections and Palm Beach County court records show Henry, 30, had been convicted of drug- and gun-related charges in 2019 as well as racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering in 2021. It was not clear from the FDOC or court records how long before Henry’s murder he was released into the Pompano Beach facility.
On Dec. 1, Henry was talking to someone outside of the work release facility when the shooter, a man who had been waiting for him, walked up to Henry and shot him, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday. Detectives said they believe Henry was targeted.
The shooter was seen on surveillance video before the murder, standing alone outside of the car while smoking a cigarette.
Henry was an alleged member of a Palm Beach County gang, based in Riviera Beach, called the Firehouse Clique, according to a 2019 probable cause affidavit for his arrest on racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering charges. The gang has continually been active in the county since at least 2007 and has a long history of violent rivalries with four other local gangs, the affidavit said.
