South Ocean Boulevard next to President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach is now open to through traffic.
The road that passes along the east side of Trump’s property on Sunday reopened between South County Road and the Southern Boulevard traffic circle, Palm Beach said in an alert sent around 9:16 p.m.
The move followed Trump’s departure earlier in the day to return to Washington, D.C., following his ninth weekend in Palm Beach since his Jan. 20 inauguration.
The road closed Friday morning ahead of Trump’s arrival that night to Mar-a-Lago, where he attended Palm Beach County Republicans’ annual Lincoln Day fundraising gala. Trump was the keynote speaker at the event, where the local GOP also presented adviser Elon Musk with an award. Musk and his son X flew to Palm Beach with Trump on Air Force One Friday night.
Trump briefly left Palm Beach on Saturday night to attend a UFC mixed martial arts fight in Miami.
The president’s departure means opening times for the three drawbridges to the island will return to their usual schedules, which change when Trump is home as part of temporary security zones implemented by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The removal of the Coast Guard security zones also will allow marine traffic to flow unimpeded through the Intracoastal Waterway past Mar-a-Lago.
President Donald Trump arrives aboard Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida on April 11, 2025.
When Trump is home, law enforcement vessels prevent boaters from pausing near the historic estate.
The Secret Service had ordered South Ocean Boulevard next to the club to close 24 hours a day, seven days a week, effective July 20. But with a mid-August deal reached by the Secret Service, Palm Beach, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Mar-a-Lago, the road reopens when Trump is away for an extended period of time, typically two or more days.
