SpaceX rocket launch visible across San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A SpaceX rocket launch was seen across San Diego County and Southern California Sunday evening.

SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket with 28 Starlink satellites into orbit from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 7:04 p.m. PT Sunday.

The Falcon 9 rocket splashed down with a sonic boom and landed on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship, which was stationed in the Pacific Ocean.

SoCal native chosen among latest NASA astronaut candidates

This is the 28th flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission, which previously launched Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich, DART, Transporter-7, Iridium OneWeb, SDA-0B, NROL-113, NROL-167, NROL-149, NAOS, and now 19 Starlink missions, according to SpaceX.

SpaceX warned ahead of time people in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties might have heard one or more sonic booms during the launch Sunday evening.
